Bringing people and paintings together. The National Gallery was established by Parliament in 1824 for the benefit of the public. It is home to a national collection of 2,400 paintings from the 13th to the 20th centuries, spanning nearly 800 years of creativity. Its permanent collection includes some of the world’s most renowned paintings, including works by Van Gogh, Turner, Monet and Leonardo da Vinci.
