Man Group launches 'Man Cooker' recipe book in support of global education charity, Room to Read
19 December 2017
Man Group today announces the launch of its charity cookbook, Man Cooker in support of Room to Read, a global organisation focused on literacy and gender equality in education in low-income countries. Man Cooker is a collection of 50 recipes submitted by Man Group’s employees around the world and a few guest contributions.
The recipes in the book include starters, main courses and desserts, representing cuisines from all over the world. The book is for home cooks who are short on time and for those would like to try something new. Each recipe reflects the personal experience of contributor and has, in some cases, undergone many years of refinement.
All proceeds from sales of Man Cooker will go directly to Room to Read and will be matched by the Man Charitable Trust, doubling the total value of funds going to the charity.
Luke Ellis, CEO of Man Group and the author of a unique recipe for spinach soufflé, said:
“We are delighted to launch Man Cooker and to support Room to Read. The book draws on culinary enthusiasm from across Man Group globally, from our Board to our traders, coders and graduate trainees. We have had great fun putting the recipes together, and we hope you enjoy trying them out! Through Man Cooker, we will be raising money for a really important cause and an excellent charity. Room to Read does ground-breaking work, transforming the lives of children in underserved communities by focusing on literacy and gender equality in education.”
Tom Parker Bowles, international food writer and critic, who has written a foreword for the book added:
“Rather like Man Group itself, the dishes in this book have a splendidly international spread. Where else would you find a recipe for Keralan vindaloo alongside one for Jollof rice from Sierra Leone? Or steamed Japanese eggs sat next to duck a l'orange? And the recipes here don't just represent the diversity of nations involved in Man Group, they come from every part of the firm's ecosystem. Better still, all proceeds go towards Room to Read, an excellent and important charity that supports children's literacy and girls’ education. As a long-term sponsor of the Man Booker Prize, the company has been a hugely generous patron to great novelists, and lovers of fine prose everywhere. So I can't think of a more fitting cause. Happy reading, happy cooking and happy eating.”
