  • Meiji Yasuda to consider acquiring an equity stake of approximately 5% in Man Group to further align interests1

Man Group plc (“Man Group”), the global alternative investment management firm, today announces the expansion of its strategic partnership with Meiji Yasuda Insurance Company (“Meiji Yasuda”).

Building on a partnership announced in February 2025, Meiji Yasuda intends to increase its capital commitment to Man Group's investment strategies to JPY 200 billion (approximately $1.25 billion) over the next three years, with a particular focus on private credit. Man Group and Meiji Yasuda will also work together to develop new products for the Japanese market.

The expanded partnership reflects the two firms’ shared ambition to build a deeper, long-term relationship.

For Meiji Yasuda, the partnership provides greater access to Man Group's expertise for the benefit of its clients. This includes knowledge sharing on topics such as technology, as well as access to investment advisory services through the Oxford-Man Institute, helping to strengthen Meiji Yasuda’s own resources. For Man Group, it supports the firm's strategic ambitions to continue growing its private credit platform and serve large insurance clients globally.

In recognition of Man Group’s growth potential, Meiji Yasuda will consider the acquisition of an equity stake of approximately 5% in Man to further align their interests. Any acquisition would be in the open-market, with no new shares being issued by Man Group.

Hideki Nagashima, President and Group CEO of Meiji Yasuda Life Insurance Company, said:

“Man Group is an important partner for Meiji Yasuda, with extensive expertise in quantitative investment management, AI utilization, private assets, and other areas. Through this expansion of our strategic partnership, we will further promote access to a broad range of investment strategies, the sharing of advanced knowledge, and personnel exchanges, thereby further enhancing our asset management capabilities. As a responsible institutional investor, we will continue to strive to improve long-term and stable investment performance and deliver “Peace of mind, forever” to our customers.”

Robyn Grew, CEO of Man Group, commented:

“We have built a deeply important relationship with Meiji Yasuda over several years and are very pleased to expand our strategic partnership. Meiji Yasuda's increased commitment to our investment strategies underlines our capabilities in private credit and demonstrates our ability to serve large insurance clients globally. The intention to acquire an equity stake reflects our shared vision for the future and further aligns the long-term interests of both companies. We are truly excited about the next chapter and look forward to building on our relationship in the years ahead."

Under the terms of the arrangement, any acquisition of Man Group’s shares by Meiji Yasuda will be subject to a three-year lock-up from the date of the agreement, a standstill restriction capping its acquisition at 19.99% of Man Group’s issued share capital, and orderly market arrangements relating to any future disposals (each subject to customary exceptions).

The arrangements can be terminated by the parties in certain circumstances.

The financial terms of the transaction are not disclosed.

1. Through open market purchases with no change to Man Group’s share capital.
